Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy in Barrie
At Excite Physiotherapy, we offer pelvic floor physiotherapy for people experiencing pelvic pain, bladder and bowel concerns, and postpartum recovery. Our compassionate, evidence-informed approach is designed to help you regain comfort, function, and confidence in your body.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is provided by Margi Patel, Registered Physiotherapist, at our downtown Barrie clinic at 105 Collier Street. Margi treats a mixed caseload of orthopaedic and pelvic health conditions and creates individualized treatment plans in a safe, supportive environment.
What Is Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy?
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that support the bladder, bowel, and uterus. When these muscles are too tight, too weak, or poorly coordinated, they can cause a wide range of symptoms affecting your daily life.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy uses internal and external assessment and hands-on treatment techniques to restore optimal pelvic floor function. Treatment is always performed with your full consent and comfort in mind.
Conditions We Treat
Our pelvic floor physiotherapy program can help with:
- Urinary incontinence — leaking with coughing, sneezing, laughing, or urgency
- Pelvic organ prolapse — heaviness or pressure in the pelvic region
- Pelvic pain — pain during intercourse, chronic pelvic pain, tailbone pain
- Postpartum recovery — diastasis recti, scar tissue, return to exercise after birth
- Prenatal preparation — pelvic floor strengthening and birth preparation
- Bowel dysfunction — constipation, urgency, or incomplete emptying
- Endometriosis and interstitial cystitis
- Hip and low back pain related to pelvic floor dysfunction
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your first pelvic floor physiotherapy appointment begins with a thorough health history and discussion of your goals and concerns. Your physiotherapist will explain each step of the assessment before proceeding.
Assessment may include:
- Posture and movement screening
- External assessment of the hip and low back
- Internal pelvic floor assessment (optional and with your consent)
Treatment is personalized to your findings and may include manual therapy, exercise prescription, breathing techniques, and education about your pelvic health.
